Songs of Grief

  • Sun Song 30 Rocala Drive Barnardsville, NC, 28709 United States (map)

Join us for a ritual day driven by the healing power of song.

This journey will offer a chance to connect into grieving through your voice, feeling the power of grief songs, and the practice of collaborative song writing for grief release.

Grief is as natural an expression of humanness as joy, and honors the losses of what we loved: family, friends, relationships, situations, parts of ourselves that once knew love, etc. Unexpressed grief can be the source of stress, illness, and disease while the process of grieving can bring balance to the body and create space for joy to recolonize the heart.
We will create a safe and powerful container together to share in heart-opening music, sacred witnessing, body awareness, and emotional release.

This musical journey of unpacking and releasing grief will be led by Josh Fox, Lillie Lumina, and Samara Jade.

Josh Fox is a local song-carrier, acupuncturist, teacher, and herbalist. A grief-tender in his private practice, he has offered community healing circles for over 9 years, inspired by the works of Sobonfu Somé, Frances Weller, and Martin Prechtel. A life-long student of grief and Chinese Medicine, he has received direct ceremonial training with Laurence Cole and Kedar Brown.

Lillie Lumina is a Board-Certified Music Therapist, Song Weaver, Reiki Practitioner, and Vocal Explorer. Emotional expression and authenticity are at the root of all that she does. She believes firmly in the power of music to heal, transform, and connect us as human beings and is passionate about creating safe containers for people to access this power.

Samara Jade is a modern folk troubadour and multi-instrumental musical seamstress who stitches together a unique tapestry of sounds from diverse musical strands. Straight from the source of flowing rivers, old growth trees and mountain peaks, and delivered with an acrobatically emotive voice, intricately groove-based guitar riffs, catchy melodies and a clever intellect, her songs are truly musical medicine for our times.
